How would you do that in PHP? Would you even THINK of doing it in
PHP... or Perl, or Ruby, or Python, or JavaScript, or AJAX?

I find that's the main point of Run BASIC, actually. It gives BASIC
coders an almost-immediate launch into browser-based web application
development. If you have a need to develop an application that
involves access by multiple users to data and processing at a single
location (simple definition of The Web), an experienced BASIC
programmer can get independently productive in Run BASIC in about one-
tenth the time it would take to amp up to speed in any of the existing
CGI-type languages.

Run BASIC Personal, just as it is now, is a potent tool for budget-
constrained intranet development, like small businesses, or rural K12
school districts, non-profits or community groups and the like, who
have a real need for real multi-user applications. The browser-based
interface makes it even more acceptable and understandable to
contem****ary computer users, whose only real computing experience has
been browsing the web, than the manifest many mysterious clickings and
button options of the typical "desktop" application. Simplicity of
design and implementation are hugely sought-after and often-elusive
qualities in software engineering these days.

Comparing Run BASIC to PHP, Python, and the others is not really much
of a profitable expenditure of energy. It's like trying to compare
cars with motorcycles -- they both operate on the same fuel, and use
the same roads, and ostensibly follow the same rules, but those
commonalities are not enough of a base to make useful comparisons of
utility and vale. You have to base the compared qualities on the
users' experience and preferences, and the users' subjective
*****sment of value.

That's not much of an answer to "what's the difference between PHP and
Run BASIC", I know. But the only way to get a real answer to that
question is to program in both, and see which you prefer. For me, Run
BASIC is the hammer that makes everything I see look like a nail.
