I think I'm the PHP coder Carl was talking about... Think of Run BASIC
as self-contained LAMP stack, but instead of LAMP it's WSSB: Windows,
Seaside, SQLite, Basic.

Speaking from my own observations as a PHP/Perl coder, with some
ASP/ASP.NET and RoR experience: Run BASIC is a BASIC (language, not
level of complexity) version of the RoR concept scaled for personal use.
It's a self-contained system with a language sitting just beneath the
application layer so your serving and scripting blend together seamlessly.

It's easy to say "but the LAMP stack," because it's true you can do
everything you do in Run BASIC in PHP (for that matter, you can do
everything you do in PHP in Perl, Ruby, Python, or C#). Where Run BASIC
diverges from PHP is...well...whenever I code in PHP, I have to fire up
Komodo as well as my browser. Komodo to edit files, the browser to test
them. Run BASIC kind of smooshes that down to just the browser; I can
edit, debug, and run Run BASIC apps with only a browser. I love Komodo,
but it's nice to finally have a web language where the editor and
application both run in the same medium.

I think that may be the biggest difference when comparing PHP to Run
BASIC. PHP may be a platform for developing application, but Run BASIC
is its own stack, in addition to being a platform. I hope that makes
the kind of sense I want it to.

Probably *should*...and I'm still dissecting this, so Carl's welcome to
tell me to shut up here :)...but Run BASIC uses some JavaScript
libraries for controlling events, namely POSTing when you click on
links. I'm not sure if it's the prototype/scriptaculous libraries that
come with Seaside or something else. That may be the reason for the
Opera not being mentioned. I'm not sure.
