I'm sorry you were put off by the suffices.  BBC BASIC doesn't use
declarations like DEFINT and DEFDBL but identifies different variable
types by suffices like % for integer and # for double.  However in
most simple programs you don't need to worry about that and can use
ordinary variables (like 'A' or 'number') without any suffix.

I presume you mean Liberty Basic.  That is a fine language in many
ways, although (like BBC BASIC) its compatibility with QBasic is
poorer than some.

Which is a 'case' in point!  Liberty Basic is unusual in not
sup****ting ON GOTO (BBC BASIC does, as well as CASE).

BBC BASIC for Windows and Liberty Basic share much the same market,
both being Windows-only BASIC interpreters with an integrated IDE.
Not surprisingly, given their history, BBC BASIC tends to be more
popular in the UK (and probably Australasia) and Liberty Basic more
popular in the US.  They each have their strengths and weaknesses;
obviously I think BBC BASIC is better on balance but I am prejudiced!
For a wide range of applications there is little to choose between
them.
