Look in the QuickBasic online help for OPEN COM, which lets you open a
serial ****t like a file, with some extra parameters.  I've long since
moved from QuickBasic / DOS to FreeBASIC under Linux, so I don't know
whether Windows will let a user program talk directly to t serial ****t.
