You'll need to upload the images to your host (be it free with your ISP
(Internet Service Provider - like NTL/Tiscali/Wanadoo/etc if you're in
the UK) or a paid for hosting). You'll need an FTP (File Transfer
Protocol) program of which FileZilla is a decent free open-source one.
You'll find Filezilla at http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla/

You'll need to know the settings so ask your host if you don't know. If
the hosting is with your ISP, then check their website support or FAQ
(Frequently Asked Questions) section.
Once you can connect to you host, then upload the images, preferably to
a folder (so you keep all images together, without having every single
image/page/css/js/etc file in the root folder).
If you create a folder called "images" in your root folder, then the
HTML to add in the cat image would become:
<img src="/images/cat.jpg" alt="..." title="..." width="50" height="40">
