The issue is most likely that your firewall "sees" the new version of
Firefox as a totally new program. Good firewall software tracks version
numbers of programs and, while you may have told your firewall to allow
version 1 of a program to have Internet access, updating to version 1.1
caused your firewall to say: "Whoa! That's a different program!" And
it has blocked it.
You need to go into your firewall configuration and find the listings
for Firefox. Delete the references to the old versions, they are not
needed and only serve to clog up your firewall's startup and processing.
Find the latest version and configure the firewall to allow it to have
access to the Internet.
