FileMaker Pro Bug Workaround in AppleScript

by Sean <sean@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Feb 26, 2008 at 06:18 PM

This is in reference to a post in the FileMaker group. It was
suggested that I post it here.

http://groups.google.com/group/comp.databases.filemaker/browse_thread/thread/191a2413372bf80f

I am finding this to be a major inconvenience and I was wondering if
someone could help with a work-around while we wait for FileMaker to
fix the bug.

The problem, briefly, is the the Set Selection FileMaker script step
does not
scroll a text field to bring the highlighted text into focus if the
selection is not visible in the area of the field. In terms of a work-
around, here's what I was thinking: the script step does properly
highlight the text, even though it does not bring it into view. At
that point, if you manually press one of the arrow keys (say, the
right arrow) the text box will scroll properly. Now, that means that
in theory one could, in OS X, write an AppleScript to simply press the
right arrow after the Set Selection script step. This would snap the
text into focus, although it would de-select the highlighted text. But
at that point perhaps a second Set Selection script step could be
issued to reselect it.

Unfortunately, I really don't know AppleScript. How would I write an
AppleScript that would simply tell FileMaker Pro to do the equivalent
of pressing the right arrow key one time? Believe it or not, I have
searched around for an answer to this, but haven't found anything
promising.

Thanks,

Sean
