Thanks Dave and JR for you quick replies. I was worried that the
discussion group had been completely taken over by conspiracy theory
cross-posters. I am pleased to see there are some dedicated
Applescripters in the wings.

I've got it working now! I can't make any sensible excuse for my
confusion. I'm so happy it's working now. Here's what it looks like:

tell application "Finder"
	activate
	open do***ent file "Macintosh
HD:Users:rozalindabuyong:Do***ents:FileMakerPrinting:Sample.doc"
end tell

tell application "Microsoft Word"
	activate
	print "Macintosh
HD:Users:rozalindabuyong:Do***ents:FileMakerPrinting:Sample.doc"
	close do***ent "Macintosh
HD:Users:rozalindabuyong:Do***ents:FileMakerPrinting:Sample.doc"
end tell

I still have to invoke Finder at the beginning as this seems to be the
only way to prevent the MS Word startup dialogue box from appearing.

Thanks guys
Regards
Kevin Smith
